Paediatric First Aid

This course is a two day program which enables you the candidate to deal with a child or infant, in a calming manner in the event of them becoming injured or unwell. Who should attend? Nursery nurses, teaching assistants, teachers, school welfare officers, childminders or any person who has the responsibility for looking after children.

Responsibilities of the first aider
Dealing with emergency situations
Casualty communication

The initial assessment

Secondary assessment, dealing with an unconscious casualty
Body checks
Recovery position
Cardiac conditions
Cardio pulmonary resuscitation
The chain of survival
Choking protocols

Dealing with a casualty who has:
Sustained a bleed
Been burnt or scalded
Shock
Broken bones, fractures and dislocations
Soft tissue injuries, sprains, strains
Eye injuries

Head and neck injuries
Concussion
Compression
Skull fracture
Spinal fracture

Miscellaneous conditions
Asthma
Anaphylactic shock
Diabetes
Poisoning
Meningitis

Assessment
Assessment is ongoing throughout the course, where your trainer will give you guidance and support in all theoretical and practical scenarios
